Bartolomeu Dias was a Portuguese explorer.

He was the first man to have sailed around the Cape of Good Hope. Dias did not set out on the journeys which made him famous until he was in his thirties.

Voyage to the Cape

All that is known about Dias&#;s life before his time as an explorer is that he was in charge of some of King João II&#;s warehouses.
